Ghana election: Voting enters second day

Long queue at polling station in Accra. 7 Dec 2012 There were long queues at some polling stations, like this one in Accra

Voting in Ghana for a new president and parliament has entered its second day after technical glitches led to long delays in some areas.
Breakdowns in a new biometric voting system meant many were unable to cast ballots on Friday.
A tight race is expected between the two main candidates - incumbent President John Dramani Mahama and opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo.
Ghanaian electoral observers said no serious incidents had been reported.
It was not clear how many polling stations had been affected by Friday's glitches. The new biometric system requires electronic fingerprints from voters.

Cold war between Goldie& J Martins after he disrupts her video shoot in SA

There's serious bad blood right now between two music stars: Goldie and J Martins. It's a long story, but I'll try to make it short. Goldie invited J Martins to South Africa in November to appear in the video of a song they did together called Give It To Me. J Martins asked for business class. Goldie said she couldn't afford it. J Martins agreed to come reluctantly. Then he told Goldie to pick him up at the airport. Goldie sent someone instead. J Martin refused to follow the man Goldie sent to the airport to pick him up, saying he didn't know the man and didn't want to be kidnapped (which makes sense).

Dear readers: How do you cope with rejection?

I dated this guy for two and a half years and things were going well until October this year when he suddenly started acting up and deleted me from his Facebook page and his BB. When I asked him why he did so he said that his Facebook page was compromised and his BB was stolen. I found out later they were all lies. I got angry with him and stopped picking his calls because I was confused about his behaviour. After a while I didn't hear from him again only for me to hear that his wedding is this Saturday (that would be today).
I'm so angry and confused and want to know how to cope with rejection. How do you get back your self esteem as a woman? And how do you ever trust a man again? How do you start all over again?

Mint Scandal: N2.1 Billion Worth Of N1,000 Notes Missing

From Leadership

The board meeting, chaired by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, decided to expand the investigation and audit the production of other currency denominations to ascertain the quantity of money that has actually gone missing over the years.
LEADERSHIP had exclusively reported that an acting managing director, Ahmed Bamali, had been appointed to head the Mint company while Ehi Okomoyon, who was the chief executive, was asked to proceed on indefinite leave.

Man Allegedly Ressurects After 7 Days In Mortuary

For those who believe such stories...enjoy...:-)
He was murdered. After about seven days of inquiry into his ‘death’, his relatives went to the mortuary with a coffin to take his body but were shocked to find him alive. Lazarus Oluwafemi Agbolahan Makinde, now an evangelist shares his story.
To hear him, especially through the telephone receiver, you must be determined and very patient. The first time this reporter called him, the impression that initially came through as the voice was barely audible, was that he must have been tired out or had some ailment. It was indeed difficult deciphering the near whisper.
On meeting him, he came through as a very happy man, and the way he carried himself made that obvious. However, speaking with him explained the cause of the piteous voice quality… His throat was slashed; his head smashed and his genitals were severed in a bizarre murder act. But he is alive to tell the story! And to work on the astonishing story he told in Egba variant-tinted Yoruba language made it even more engaging, considering the fact that he had no western education.
Evangelist Makinde’s joy at being alive and able to bear children came through as he struggled to be heard and understood. And this explains his eagerness to tell his story over and over again.

[marriagerestoration] In Your Situation, The Lord Is With You! Dec. 7, 2012 - Doreen's Daily Delights

Psa. 23:4 "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me."

No matter how you are feeling today you must look to the Lord where your help comes from. Do not give up!! Do not give into the temptation to "curse God and die!" Even though you may not feel it or understand it, the Lord really does love you, and He still has a wonderful plan. Nothing can come into your life unless it first filters through His fingers of love.

Many of us have been hurt in the past and we can all relate to rejection, abuse, ridicule, disappointment, betrayal, loss, fear, sadness, bad choices… and the list goes on.

King David was the only man in the Bible called "a man after God's own heart" (Acts 13:22), yet he suffered hurt on many levels – misunderstood and hunted by King Saul, mocked and despised by his own wife, betrayed and hated by his own son, devastated by his own sin, and rejected by the people who chose to follow Absalom instead of David. Without question, David spent lots of time in the dark valley of the shadow of death.

But notice… he walked through that valley; he did not remain in the valley. I say to you my friend, this too shall past. He did not curse God and die there. He trusted God in the valley… and the Lord saw him through to the other side.

Why the dark valleys? Why all the hurts? Why all the storms in life? To show us that God is more than able to take the worst life can throw at us and turn it around for good. (Rom. 8:28)

Remember, He promises to never leave you or forsake you (Heb. 13:5). He promises to give you "beauty for ashes" (Is. 61:3). Seek Him each day for strength to go on. Remind Him that He promised to be present in your valley. Ask Him to see you through!! He will do it, if you do not quit!

He is a God who brings us through! It may not be immediate but continue to trust God's timing, for it takes time to heal… but it will be sure as you simply depend upon Him and say with Job, "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him" (Job 13:15).

There is a light and victory at the end of your dark valley!
I say to you my friends, will you trust? Will you trust the One who cannot fail? Will you trust the One who wins at all times? Will you?

I am praying for and interceding on your behalf daily.

I love you with the Love of the Lord.

[marriagerestoration] God's Plan Will Stand!! Dec. 6, 2012 - Doreen's Daily Delights

God's Plan Will Stand!!

Do you believe this? Yes, God's plan will not. Not your wayward spouse, or this other person, if there is one. It is God's plan that will stand.

I want to encourage each of you today. God know all about your
situation. God is in control and will honor your perseverance. Giving up and starting a new relationship will not solve your problem. You need to persevere and wait for healing and restoration. We all know the story of the prodigal son, and how that father never gave up on him. He kept waiting and watching until he received his son home safe. Then he rejoiced.

The one thing that is not obvious is the hurt that father went
through. I assure you that from the day that boy received his
inheritance and walked away until the day he returned home smelling
like a pig, that father's heart was in pain.

It is discouraging to deal with a spouse who is stubborn and
rebellious, but God doesn't want us to give up on them. It is painful
to have your spouse separating from you and serving you divorce papers
or living in an adulterous relationship, but you can't give up on
them.

We rejoice in tribulations also, knowing that tribulations worketh
patience, and patience experience, and experience hope: and hope
maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our
hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us Romans 2:3-5.
Although we may start with a struggle, we know that we are working
toward healing and restoration.

One of the goals of Marriage Restoration Ministries is to reach out to
hurting people with words of life and peace. While trying to fulfill
this calling, I often have a number of hurts going on in my very own
life. The Lord showed me how I could help hurting people when I'm
hurting myself. The Lord revealed to me that if I wait until I was
trouble-free before I tried to help someone else, I would never get
anything done.

When we are really hurting, no person on earth can really understand
the inner fears that plague us. Our closest friends may try to
encourage us, but it only relieves us temporarily, if at all. Only
God can break through the depression and loneliness that weighs us
down. He alone can heal a bruised and broken heart. We suffer
silently until God steps in and gives perspective and stability. He
embraces us before we reach the breaking point.

He wraps His loving arms around us, and causes our hurting minds and
bodies to rise up on the wings of His divine protection. He bottles
up our tears (Psalms 56:8), and gives us beauty for ashes (Isaiah
61:3).

In this life, we experience trials, pain, sadness and grief. At times
these things seem to overwhelm us. That's when we are tempted to give
up, throw in the towel and conclude that our situation is hopeless.

Discouragement is a universal problem. As Christians, we must deal
with discouragement without giving up. Even the most devout saint,
including pastors, can have inner wounds that are difficult to
overcome. Discouragement doesn't just happen. It has many causes.
Negative circumstances, loneliness, anger, guilt, frustration and
financial pressures are just a few of them.

God alone can bring about healing, and put the pieces back together
again. We need to stop trying to explain why we are hurting. Whether
it is right or wrong doesn't really change anything. All that matters
is that we not give up, that we maintain our willingness to move
forward in God and trust Him to work all things for our good
"...think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try
you, as though some strange thing happened to you: But rejoice,
inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when His
glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy."
(1 Peter 4:12,13).

Let's stop worrying about what went wrong. God is watching over you
with unwavering eyes. He feels every hurt and interprets every groan.
He knows how much we can bear, and would never overload our circuits.
God loves us eternally, therefore we can be sure that no weapon formed
against us shall prosper - Isaiah 58:17.

Remember, God's plan will stand in the end. Whatever plans your
spouse may be making, GOD PLAN WILL STAND. Believe this!!

I want to thank those who have been assisting me in this quest for the healing of marriages. Without your prayers and financial support, there is no way I would be able to encourage and minister to many. I thank God daily for your obedience and faithfulness.

This Ministry is 501(c)(3) certified by IRS and your gift is qualified for tax deductions. Thanks for your faithfulness.

I'm going to jump in here with a couple of comments as well.

With newer lifters, 1 rep max is highly variable as the form and other major components are not as firmly grounded as they get later in the athlete's performance. I have always heard folks remark that the first three to five years of a powerlifter (for example) career, the advances come fairly quickly, the athlete has not truly got a 1 rep max usually for at least 3 years. That is, the athlete can find good ways to advance the 1 rep max fairly quickly by changes in form to refine it, eating, or program changes. The influence then of using other aids (PED, equipment additions for some) also will significantly accelerate/advance 1 rep max gains.

Rest is another variable that is often overlooked before testing for a 1 rep max. Some athletes will need more rest before a competition, some thrive on less.

Consistent eating before training, then using that same eating before a test also can be helpful.

Stress from outside sources should be considered as well, this influences sleep.

Were I to take a newer athlete to test for a 1 rep max, I wouldn't look for the max lift for at least a year - the first meets would be exploratory, based on gym lifts AND working on building confidence. For the confidence to attempt a true 1 rep max and fail a lift or two is part of the learning experience and part of building that confidence needed to truly expand your lifting toward what you cannot believe you do in your daily life, but you do as an athlete on the platform.

Were I to need just an estimate for program building for an athlete, I'd go with a challenging triple and then use that, take about 10 percent more as the top guess for a single, if the risk/reward is not proper for a true max out. Some folks do not need to risk or strain to the point of possible form break down simply for well, less necessary reasons. I'd also be sure to use sufficient spotters and make sure also not to permit with most people short of competition PL a TRUE grind out max effort.

Subject: [Supertraining] Re: 1 Rep Max

My first question is, what is the purpose of the 1RM test? If it is being used to calculate the next block of training, then obviously accuracy is valued, but not entirely necessary. Is the person a powerlifter? Weightlifter? How long have they been training? Do you want a training max or contest max?
If they are an athlete using resistance training to improve for their sport, a precise 1RM is unnecessary. Anything close will do. If they haven't been training very long, they don't need to perform a 1RM.
My general recommendation for 1RM testing - start with the barx10, then work your way up making fairly small jumps, sets of 3-5 reps. As you get closer to the number you are planning on, drop down to singles or doubles. Take 3 attempts at a max (don't all have to be the same number).
You're overthinking this.
