In their statement, U.S. Soccer also offered condolences to Celine and all of his family and friends. 

“Grant made soccer his life’s work, and we are devastated that he and his brilliant writing will no longer be with us,” the organization said. “We thank Grant for his tremendous dedication to and impact on our game in the United States. His writing and the stories he told will live on.”

Grant wrote for publications such as Sports Illustrated and was the author of books including The Beckham Experiment: How the World’s Most Famous Athlete Tried to Conquer America and Masters of Modern Soccer: How the World’s Best Play the Twenty-First-Century Game. He produced the 2022 mini series Good Rivals, about the “rivalry between the United States and Mexico national soccer teams,” per IMDb.

Following his death, the U.S. State Department spokesperson tweeted that they are “engaged with senior Qatari officials to see to it that his family’s wishes are fulfilled as expeditiously as possible,” and noted they are in “close communication” with Grant’s family.

E! News has reached out to Grant’s rep but hasn’t received a comment.

R. Kelly Speaks From Prison, Claims He Had Nothing to Do with ‘I Admit It’ Album

R. Kelly isn’t admitting a damn thing when it comes to the “I Admit It” album that dropped Friday — speaking from jail, he calls the recording a plot to screw him over in court.

TMZ obtained this audio Kelly’s attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, says he recorded Friday shortly after they’d met. The disgraced singer immediately shuts down the notion he’d put out any music right now, much less something with the lyrics, “I Admit It,” because he’s trying to appeal his latest federal conviction.

Even more mysterious … Kelly seems to insinuate the album recordings aren’t even his voice. He says, “I hope people recognized my voice and know that” he wouldn’t be recording in the middle of a legal battle.

As we reported, it certainly looked and sounded like he’d release a 13-track album, with the title track addressing many of the allegations leveled against him.

After just a few hours, though, the project was pulled from Spotify and Apple Music — as Kelly’s label, Sony Music, denied any involvement in the recording or in distributing it to the streamers.

His legal team later told us, they were investigating to figure out who may have released the music. BTW, we know it was uploaded by Ingrooves, a distributor owned by Universal Music Group … with no ties to Sony Music.

Also, the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed R. Kelly didn’t produce any songs using equipment in prison.

During this voice recording, he seemed to want to prove it’s not his voice on “I Admit It” — so, he broke into a few bars of his song, “When A Woman’s Fed Up.”

He thinks there’s a clear difference, but listen for yourself.

Kelly’s been convicted by 2 separate federal juries — and is serving a 30-year sentence for sex crimes. He’s scheduled to be sentenced in February for the second case.

Klay Thompson believes Draymond Green‘s attack on teammate Jordan Poole will eventually be nothing but a “blip on the story” … saying the team will be farther away from the incident the more they win.

Klay spoke about the October practice altercation in an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews this week … saying he wasn’t too concerned about the impact it would have on the team’s chemistry as long as they handled business on the court.

It wasn’t all gravy for the Dubs, though — they were slow out the gate, going 3-7 to start the season … and many wondered if the practice incident had anything to do with it.

Al Roker Returns Home After Second Hospitalization

It looks like sunny days are ahead for Al Roker.

After all, the Today weather anchor has been released from the hospital after seeking treatment for the second time in a month. As he shared on Instagram Dec. 8, “Home!”

Posting pictures of himself with wife Deborah Roberts and 24-year-old daughter Leila Roker under the same roof again, he continued, “So incredibly grateful to family, friends, medical folks, @todayshow family and all your thoughts and prayers.”

Earlier that same day, Al penned an optimistic health update accompanied by a photo of a stunning sunrise above a city skyline.

“Hopefully coming home soon but when your spirit sags a bit, you get to see that and recharge,” Al wrote. “God Bless you all for all the prayers and well wishes for me and my family.”

Al was first admitted to the hospital in November—shortly before Thanksgiving—due to blood clot in his leg and lungs. As a result of the medical setback, he did not cover the broadcast of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade for the first time in 27 years.

Olive Garden is saying arrivederci to a controversial restaurant manager who allegedly got so fed up with employees calling out for work they demanded proof even if a staffer’s dog died.

A message reportedly sent from the disgraced manager to employees and obtained by KCTV read, “Our call-offs are occurring at a staggering rate. From now on, if you call off, you might as well go out and look for another job. We are no longer tolerating ANY EXCUSE for calling off. If you’re sick, you need to come prove it to us. If your dog died, you need to bring him in and prove it to us.”

The manager, who worked at an OG location in Kansas, continued their rant by claiming they’d not taken a single day off in more than 11 years at the franchise.

Allegedly writing, “Do you know in my 11.5 years at Darden how many days I called off? Zero. I came in sick. I got in a wreck literally on my way to work one time, airbags went off and my car was totaled, but you know what, I made it to work, ON TIME.”

Now, Olive Garden has reportedly fired the guy, saying, “We strive to provide a caring and respectful work environment for our team members. This message is not aligned with our company’s values. We can confirm we have parted ways with this manager.”

TikToker Megha Thakur Dead at 21

The TikTok community has lost one of its own.

Social media personality Megha Thakur died at age 21 on Thanksgiving, per a message from Megha’s parents shared to her Instagram page.

“It is with heavy hearts we announce the light of our life, our kind, caring, and beautiful daughter, Megha Thakur, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on November 24, 2022 in the early morning hours,” the post read. “Megha was a confident and independent young woman.”

A cause of death has not been revealed.

Noting that the late TikToker will be “dearly missed,” Megha’s parents continued their message by reflecting on the expansive social media career their daughter achieved, which included over 105,000 followers on Instagram and over 940,000 followers on TikTok.

“She loved her fans and would have wanted you to know of her passing,” they continued. “At this time, we request your blessings for Megha. Your thoughts and prayers will be with her in her onward journey.”

Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley‘s youngest son shared how he is doing nearly a month after his car accident in Nashville Nov. 12.

Today Stars Mourn Death of Former Floor Director Mark Traub

The Today Show is mourning a friend and colleague.

Hoda Kotb, Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie are paying tribute to Today‘s long time floor director, Mark Traub, who passed away on Dec. 6 at 64 after a battle with leukemia. 

“Certain people come around once in a lifetime,” Hoda wrote on Instagram on Dec. 7 next to a photo of him standing on the Today show set. “Mark Traub was that man. He was our floor director for decades.. he made us feel loved. I hope you know how much we loved you back Mark. RIP my friend xoxo”

Al—who is currently recovering from a blood clot that’s kept him off the air since just before Thanksgiving—also shared a touching message for his late friend. 

“The laugh you always heard in the background for years on @todayshow was our stage manager, @mtraub2295 and when he retired, some of our spark diminished,” he wrote alongside a photo of himself and Mark hugging. “Sadly, that light is gone after a long battle. Take care, Mark. You are so missed.”

Chip and Joanna Gaines Sued For at Least $1 Million By Former Literary Agent

“Fixer Upper” stars Joanna and Chip Gaines are being taken to court by their former literary agent who claims the couple tried to back out of paying a set fee for their massive book deal after signing with someone else.

According to legal docs, obtained by TMZ, Joanna and Chip were repped by Vigliano Associates when they inked a massive $12.5 million deal back in 2017 to crank out 5 books for HarperCollins.

Vigliano says it was set to get a 7.5% cut of any payments to the couple and claims everything went fine for the first 2 books … but Vigliano says the couple then “concocted a scheme” to back out payments for the last 3 books by trying to amend the deal.

The docs say the couple tried to eliminate one of the books and, as for the other two, Vigliano says they tried to swap out Joanna and make Chip the author for one of the remaining books.

Vigliano claims the original deal only applied to Joanna-authored books, so the move essentially took the book deal from 5 books down to 3 … and, as a result, meant much less pay for Vigliano.

What’s worse, the docs claim Joanna inked a deal with a different agent instead … and now Vigliano says the money made from her new book, “The Stories We Tell: Every Piece of Your Story Matters,” should be going to its company instead — and now Vigliano is looking for at least $1 million in damages over it.

The docs note, “Joanna and Chip Gaines brand themselves as moral Christians who purportedly operate in an ethical manner” … before adding, “nothing could be further from the truth.”

Nia Long has entered her single era.

The Best Man star and basketball coach Ime Udoka have broken up after 13 years together. The news comes two months after Ime, the head coach of the Boston Celtics was suspended from the organization for the remainder of the basketball season back in September after allegedly having a relationship with a female Celtics employee.

New name, new country, same bulls–t.

You‘s Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) has once again found himself among an elite social circle, despite his disdain for the uber rich. But rather than rub elbows with New York’s elite as Joe or Los Angeles’ new money as Will, the problematic protagonist is infiltrating London’s aristocratic society. Why? We’re guessing a woman is somehow involved.

Case in point: In new season four images released by Netflix Dec. 6, Joe, now going by the alter ego Professor Jonathan Moore, is seen getting close to the icy Kate (Charlotte Ritchie).

You may be asking yourself, “But what about Marienne, Joe’s season three obsession?” Well, photos taken in March of the You set indicated that Joe does run into Marienne (Tati Gabrielle), only for her to run away from him.

And if we know anything about our boy Joe, it’s that he hates to be rejected. Fingers crossed that Marienne ends up with a better fate than Beck (Elizabeth Lail), Candace (Ambyr Childers) and Love (Victoria Pedretti).

Nia Long, Ime Udoka Reportedly Break Up After Coach’s Affair With Celtics Staffer

Nia Long and Ime Udoka are done — the couple of 13 years has reportedly broken up after the Boston Celtics coach’s affair with a team employee.

The news comes less than three months after the Boston Celtics suspended Udoka for the entire 2022-23 season for violating team policy … a public scandal that Long said was “devastating.”

As TMZ Sports previously reported, Udoka had an inappropriate relationship with the Celtics’ travel planner … who was in charge of booking Long’s flights to attend home and road games — as well as her arrangements to move to Boston permanently.

The fallout was apparently too much to recover from … as People reports the two sides have called it quits on their relationship and are now focused on co-parenting their 11-year-old son, Kez.

Long recently sounded off on the Celtics for airing out their dirty laundry … saying, “I think the most heartbreaking thing about all of this was seeing my son’s face when the Boston Celtics organization decided to make a very private situation public.”

Udoka remains suspended from the Celtics … but was rumored to be Steve Nash‘s replacement at the head of the Brooklyn Nets bench. The team ultimately decided to go with Jacque Vaughn.

Long and Udoka first met in 2010 when the ex-NBAer was a member of the Sacramento Kings. They were engaged in 2015 … but did not end up getting hitched.

Why Harrison Ford Didn’t Consult Yellowstone’s Kevin Costner

Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren carved out names on the Dutton family tree all by themselves. 

The two veteran actors star in the Yellowstone prequel series 1923, premiering Dec. 18 on Paramount+. However, just because the pair is stepping into the world of the Duttons doesn’t mean they called up Yellowstone‘s own Kevin Costner for some words of wisdom.

“I respect Kevin enormously and his body of work and everything he’s done, and the work he’s doing in Yellowstone,” Harrison exclusively told E! News at the 1923 premiere Nov. 4. “But I’m on my own path.”

Harrison continued, “We haven’t had a chance to catch up, but I’m looking forward to it.”

When it came to saying yes to 1923, which marks just Harrison’s second series regular role on a television series ever—he’ll also star in Apple TV+’s Shrinking, alongside Jason Segel, in January—it all came down to the scripts.

“I wanted to do it because I like the writing,” he said. “I thought it was an incredibly ambitious and vigorous character to play and it seemed like a good idea.”

Who are we to argue?

Kirstie Alley Dead at 71

Kirstie Alley has died after a short battle with cancer. The Cheers actress was 71. 

Her children True and Lillie Parker shared the news on Dec. 5, writing in a statement posted to her Twitter page, “We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered.” 

Kirstie was “surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead,” her children wrote. “As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.” 

After thanking the staff at Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida for their care, True and Lillie reflected on Kirstie’s legacy. 

“Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating,” they said, “were unparalleled and leave us inspiring to live life to the fullest just as she did.”

Kirstie had her breakout role playing Rebecca Howe in NBC’s Cheers from 1987 to 1993, which won her an Emmy and Golden Globe Award.

Pregnant TikToker Nabela Noor Reveals Sex of Baby With Seth Martin

Nabela Noor is thinking pink, again.

Two weeks after confirming she is pregnant, the social media star shared that she and husband Seth Martin have another daughter on the way.

In an adorable reveal video shared to TikTok on Dec. 5, the couple are seen opening a large white, ribbon adorned box as their 9-month-old daughter Amalia Rana sits on the floor in front in front of them. As the two open the top, pink balloons begin to float out, revealing they are expecting a baby girl.

The clip, captioned “a dream come true,” was fitting set to John Mayer‘s 2003 song “Daughters.”

In the comments, the couple—who married in 2015—was showered with congratulations. One fan wrote, “Two girls so close is age is precious!! They will be besties forever. Love this for y’all!!” Nabela—who has three sisters of her own—responded, “This is such a dream come true. My sisters are my best friends, I squeezed them when I found out.”

The Fate of Fboy Island Revealed

It looks like even HBO Max is done with f–k boys.

That’s right, according to a Dec. 5 report by Variety, the streamer has canceled the Nikki Glaser-hosted dating show. The series, which ran for two seasons on HBO Max, followed three women as they looked for love among a group of men. The catch? Not all of the suitors were there for the right reasons, leaving the female leads to figure out who among the men were “Fboys” just looking to win a cash prize.

We’re certainly disappointed by this news, as creator Elan Gale told E! News in August that he hoped to expand the series into a franchise, a “FPerson Universe,” if you will. “I love FBoys, FGirls, FPeople and I want to keep bringing back all of the fan-favorites because I think we can tell 10-year stories.” Gale added at the time, “We want to use the Marvel philosophy.”

Kirstie Alley Dead at 71 After Private Battle with Cancer

Kirstie Alley — who made a name for herself on both television and film — has died after a private battle with cancer.

Her family announced Monday, “We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered.”

They continued … “She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother. We are grateful to the incredible team of doctors and nurses at the Moffitt Cancer Center for their care.”

Her two children wrote in the statement, “Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did.”

It’s unclear what type of cancer Alley was fighting.

Alley became a household name as Rebecca Howe on “Cheers” from 1987-1993 … a role that netted her both an Emmy and Golden Globe in 1991. She went on to snag her second Emmy for her role in “David’s Mother.”

Fans will also remember her for her leading role in the 80s flick “Look Who’s Talking,” the films “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,” “It Takes Two” and many others.
