ISIS Claims Attack On Borno Governor’s Convoy, Says 42 People...

ISIS Claims Attack On Borno Governor’s Convoy, Says 42 People Were Killed.

A Boko Haram splinter group loyal to the Islamic State, Islamic State West Africa Province, has claimed the attack on the convoy of Borno State governor in northeast Nigeria, Reuters reported.
The state is one epicentre of insurgency that started in 2009 and is home to Chibok where over 200 girls were kidnapped from their school hostels a little less than five years ago.
ISWAP said on Amaq News Agency that it killed 42 people in the attack carried out on Tuesday evening when the governor was returning from a campaign
outing near Dikwa.
Some of those killed may have been beheaded, a military source told Reuters.
The Guardian learned on Wednesday that the insurgents ambushed the convoy, split it into two and attacked the one left at the rear.
Another source told AFP that two soldiers and two civilians were killed and an unspecified number of ruling All Progressives Congress members were kidnapped.
“The bus they were travelling in got stuck in the sand while the driver was trying to manoeuvre and turn back towards Dikwa,” the source told AFP.
“All the people in the bus were rounded up and taken into the bush. Another truck belonging to CJTF, which also got stuck, was taken away but the occupants were able to flee.”
Tomasz Rolbiecki, a Polish journalist who covers activities of Islamic and Boko Haram insurgency said the attackers claimed only “2 people and 4 vehicles” were captured.
Neither Governor Kashim Shettima, who is completing his second term in office and now campaign for a seat in the Nigerian Senate and the military have commented on the attack.
But Shettima’s deputy Usman Durkwa told newsmen on Wednesday that he heard the rumours of the attack. He said he was yet to confirm if it was true.
“I am hearing it as a rumour,” Durkwa said.
“I am yet to get a report on the attack of the governor’s convoy. They are yet to return from a campaign rally in Mafa, Dikwa and Gamboru, a border town with Cameroon.”
The spokesman for 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, Col. Ado Isa, said military formations around the affected area were yet to send in a report of the incident.

OMG : Is Blac Chyna Dating Soulja Boy?

Everything you need to live well
According to new reports, reality TV star and former exotic dancer, Blac Chyna has found love again and this time, it is in the arms of rapper, Soulja Boy.
We gather that things got heated between Chyna and Soulja Boy after the duo slid into each other’s direct messages on social media.
They are reported to have met at Sean Kingston’s penthouse in Los Angeles last week. The rest became history and they even appear to be taking their
romance a bit public.
It would be recalled that Chyna had only some few weeks ago been involved in an altercation with her ex-boyfriend, Kid Buu in Hawaii. The duo got physical leading to police intervention to separate them. Kid Buu had allegedly slammed Chyna on the wall and choked her after they got into a heated argument, all of which he denied.
We earlier reported that in a now deleted Insta-live session, Chyna who is the mother of two had called out her babies daddies, Tyga and Rob Kardashian. In her post, she shamed her exes who she says her treating her like the bad guy for asking for more money for child support.

Thousands protest against job losses in South Africa

Thousands of South African workers staged nationwide demonstrations on Wednesday to protest high unemployment and government policies that they say have failed to create jobs and are deepening poverty.
Workers dressed in red t-shirts, showing their loyalty to the trade union movement, gathered in the
southeastern port city of Durban, Johannesburg and other locations for open-air rallies three months ahead of the country’s general election.
Companies in South Africa, notably in the mining sector, have shed tens of thousands of jobs in recent years in what unions have termed a “jobs bloodbath” as the economy of Africa’s most industrialised nation struggles for growth.
South Africa has a near-record 27 percent unemployment rate, with trade unions saying 9.3 million employable people need jobs.
Zingiswa Losi, president of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), led the main march in Durban, which was attended by about 6,000 people.
“Today’s march is a national strike and we are marching to (say to the) government and the private sector, we cannot afford to lose jobs in this country,” Losi told reporters at the start of the demonstration.
About 2,000 people attended the Johannesburg rally.
Official statistics released on Tuesday showed that the unemployment rate dropped marginally to 27.1 percent in the last quarter of 2018 from 27.5 percent in the previous quarter.
The drop was largely due to casual workers hired over Christmas holiday period.
South Africa’s economy grew less than one percent last year and is currently in the grip of its worst electricity cuts in years.
The continent’s largest energy utility Eskom, which has been plagued by debt and mismanagement, plunged the country into darkness this week with rotating black-outs imposed as demand outstripped supply.
COSATU has been a key ally of the ruling ANC party, which is seeking to revive its flagging popularity ahead of elections on May 8, when President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to retain power.

JOHESU shuts down FMC Asaba over FG’s ‘no work, no pay policy’...

JOHESU shuts down FMC Asaba over FG’s ‘no work, no pay policy’

Activities at the Federal Medical Center ( FMC, Asaba) were on Wednesday paralyzed following protest by members of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) over federal government’s “no work, no pay policy” on its members.
The protesters, though peaceful, displayed placards with inscriptions such as: “FG is not serious, its policy can’t take us to anywhere, we dare the FG today to sit at home after today’s protest, FG give us what we deserved, We are not fools, FG policy is a ruse, President Buhari Should review the Policy”.

The nationwide protest was anchored on two major issues: first, the withholding of salaries of JOHESU members for the months of April and May, 2018, and the union’s request for the upward adjustment of the Consolidate Health Salary Structure ( CONHESS).
In a letter addressed to the federal Ministry of Labour and Employment dated January 15, 2019, the union made reference to the strike embarked upon by JOHESU members from April 17 to May 30, 2018 due to the government’s non implementation of the terms of agreement freely entered into on September 30, 2018.
Part of the letter reads, “the strike was Suspended as an aftermath of the Court action instituted by Incorporated Trustees of kingdom Human Rights Foundation International. A pronouncement was made by the Court which Stated that all parties should maintain” Status quo ante” and avoid any action that can jeopardize the peaceful atmosphere required to resolve the issues after the case was referred to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Center.”
The letter further stated that it came as a surprise that while the case was yet to be resolved at ADR, “the Federal Ministry of Health Opted to churning out series of circulars among which was the implementation of the” No Work, No Pay”.
The action led to the non payment of the part of April 2018 and the whole of May 2018 salaries to the members of the union.
But protesters at the FMC Asaba led by Justice Erugboro said, “It is the opinion of the leadership of JOHESU that the action of the Federal Ministry of Health was not in the interest of peace but provoke our members through the frustration they were forced to bear, in the interest of peace, equity and Justice, We hereby appeal to you to use your good Offices to Compel the Federal Ministry of Health to release the withheld Salaries of our members.”
According to the Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives ( NANNM) a sub union of JOHESU, Comrade Vitowanu Patricia, the Federal Government has continually ignored pleas in the letters and refused to pay the withheld salary, thus bringing about the three day peaceful protest.
“As though the forceful withholding of our salaries is not enough, the government has failed to implement the upward review of our CONHESS that has been on the table since 2014 , but same government has adjusted that of the doctors four times in a space of ten years.
“The discrimination within the health sector has become unbearable, as the doctors receive better treatments than the nurses, the doctors are the ones in positions of authority, heading all the departments and thus fight for their caused,” he decried.
But the Chief Medical Director of FMC Asaba, Dr Victor Osiatuma appealed to the protesters to embrace dialogue with the Federal Government, adding that it was the only way for peaceful resolution with a view to arresting all of the union’s grievances.

POLITICS : Why Buhari, Ogboru will win in Delta — Egbo ...

POLITICS : Why Buhari, Ogboru will win in Delta — Egbo

Olorogun Jaro Egbo is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ughelli North Constituency II of Delta State. In this interview, Egbo speaks on the chances of the APC emerging victorious in the state during the forthcoming general elections and appealed to Nigerians, particularly Deltans, to re-elect President Muhammadu Buhari and the candidate of the party for the gubernatorial election, Great Ogboru.

President Mohammadu Buhari (right) and Chief Great Ogboru APC Delta State Gubernatorial Candidate (left) during the APC Presidential rally held at the Warri City Stadium , Delta State , Wednesday.

Why I decided to run for public office

I have always wanted to serve my people. I think it is an inborn thing. It started from my primary school days as I have always seen public service as the highest form of service you can render your people. In primary school, I was in the boys scout, Red Cross in the secondary school, and also class prefect. I started early in politics in my university days as I was a senator in the Law student Association assembly. I have always loved to be a legislator, to make laws for our people that will better their lives. In 2015, I ran for the House of Assembly position but I was cheated out. So, I left PDP then and joined the APC on the need to serve my people because the quality of legislators we have is nothing to write home about.

A legislator is a lobbyist, someone who influences projects, an interface between the people and the government of the day. He represents the people at the grassroots and I have seen that there is a wide lacuna between our legislators and the people. I say this because you see communities with their varied needs in Nigeria today, they do not have electricity, but these legislators will bring solar light on an untarred road as against finding out the actual need of the people. Some areas lack classrooms; they will go and influence roads for the people when what they actually need is a classroom or healthcare center. Having gone round, you will realize that most of our communities are in darkness. This has to do with the privatization policy of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, as the new owners who came onboard no longer provide transformers for our people, but rather than ask the people for their needs, they will go there and cite constituency projects that are not needed all because there is some money to make.

So, I believe that if I am voted into office, I will interact with my people, I will hold a periodic town hall meeting with them and this will not be an Ughelli affair because the constituency is a tripod one compromising Agbarho, Ughelli and Uwheru. So, starting with Agbarho, I will ask them what are the things needed because what Agbarho needs might not be what Uwheru needs. I will sit with them and ensure that their needs are met and the same will apply to Ughelli.

So, as a legislator, you must address issues of the people that relate to their wellbeing. Issues like security and de-flooding of the communities. These are some of the challenges of the people and not things that will not add value to them. I believe the current legislator that is representing them do not know their needs because he has not held any town hall meetings with them to the best of my knowledge.

He has not met with them to say “what do we do to move this community to the next level?” So, these are things that I will participate in if am elected and I believe that I will do it in a unique way that it will go round and everyone treated as co-equals.

My confidence

Though I know power belongs to God, I am very confident of victory at the polls. God made it possible that I should be appointed as political adviser to the EDP NDDC, and I have used that office to the fullest because I have the confidence of my boss, Engr. Sam Adjogbe. We sat down and drew up a development plan for Ughelli and environs and that has yielded over 36 roads in Ughelli alone, our budget is loaded for projects in Agbarho, Uwheru and Ughelli.

We have renovated over 25 primary schools and restoring high tension electricity power project to Afiesere and others. So, people have seen that if I can do all these as an assistant, if given a substantive office, I will do better and if you go around the town, you can confirm these projects. My flag off is also a confirmation of the peoples love and interest in my candidacy and that was why the place was filled up with supporters. So, I am confident that the failure of the incumbent to act and make good his office, his abandonment of his mandate for other frivolous things, has endeared me to my people and made my job easier. So, I am very confident that I will be elected as the representative of Ughelli North II.

Chances of Buhari on February 16

I believe firmly that the chances of President Buhari are brighter than it was in 2015. Apart from South-West, you will recall that the South-East and South-South was won by the PDP, but today, it is not the same story. Am sure you witnessed the number of crowd that received at the Warri stadium which is a testament to his acceptability in the South-South. They believe that the candidate of the opposition has so much baggage and a testament to what Obasanjo wrote in his books that the man is so corrupt and cannot be trusted by Nigerians. But Buhari has no such baggage, he may have one or two weaknesses, you cannot the integrity of a Buhari with an Atiku.

Also, in the North, several of the PDP bigwigs have abandoned the party, and how is he going to win the South-West? He did not put them in his reckoning, coming to the South and South-east, when we did not vote for him, there are several appointments and developments there, so his chances are very bright. And when you juxtapose it with what is going on in Delta here, Ogboru’s chances are bright. We were in PDP, so we know he always wins his elections but he is usually cheated out and with the likes of us and former Governor Uduaghan in the party, it will be a different ball game entirely. Also, I know that when Buhari wins his election, typical of the average Nigerian politician, they will abandon the PDP and this will have a positive spiral effect on Ogboru’s election and also, there is the 20 years cycle of change. The PDP has been in power in the state for 20 years. Take a look at Akwa Ibom and others that are our contemporaries that were far behind us.

Our roads are nothing to write home about except those being done by the NDDC. Our hospitals are consulting rooms, look at the DELSU Teaching Hospital, Oghara, it is more or less an abandoned institution because the government of the day has no road map to manage these things. So, tell me, what will motivate a Deltan to vote for PDP in Delta State? We inherited an economy that was in doldrums. Former Finance Minister Okonjo Iweala had already confirmed that the economy was in relapse. We came out when Buhari came in, the man doesn’t talk much like others. They say we are losing jobs but N-Power alone has added about 500, 000 jobs. Oil production has gone up owing to the relative peace in the Niger Delta region. Abandoned roads are being done; let me tell you, it is the elites that do not have access to free monies that are complaining about Buhari.

On security, before we came in, Boko Haram was controlling 13-14 local government areas, but they have lost out. However, you cannot deny that there are some security lapses, so I think the president in his second term should step up on security because security of lives is supreme but that is not to say the PDP will do better because what we are facing today was caused by the PDP. PDP sustained their power for 16 years through massive rigging. Judging by the elections held in Anambra, Ekiti and Osun states, you find that those results are very clear and I believe that we will witness a free and fair election as the man (Buhari) doesn’t need to rig to win elections. It is voters that will decide this election and we have their confidence.

I want Nigerians to be steadfast with APC. We have been there for less than 4 years, and in our second term, we will do better and that is why we tagged it ‘Next Level’ as the first level was to clean out the legacy of corruption of the PDP and we have gone far with that. So, in the second term, if given the opportunity, we will do better and we will take security and welfare very seriously.
