Two Officials Charged For Stealing President Mugabe’s Birthday Cattle

Two provincial officials from Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe’s party have appeared in court charged with stealing 10 cattle meant for the veteran leader’s birthday celebrations, their lawyer said on Tuesday.

Prosecutors alleged the pair was entrusted with 10 cattle donated by a local farmer for Mugabe’s birthday bash in Mutare city.

“They unlawfully and with the intention to steal, converted the cattle to their own use thereby committing the crime of stock theft,” read part of the prosecution case.

Mike Madiro and Dorothy Mabika deny the charges, lawyer Tinofara Hove told AFP.

Pregnant women, nursing mothers among 183 suspects arrested in Lagos

 Men of the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences, yesterday, arrested 183 suspected criminals in two separate operations.

The operation became necessary following increasing cases of robbery, rape, among other crimes.

The suspects who were said to have been rounded up at Oshodi and Mafoluku areas of the state, are currently being detained at Alausa detention camp pending their trial before a magistrate court.

UW astronomer discovers Earthlike planet, keeps the faith

Eric Agol is a UW astronomer credited with discovering an earthlike planet that’s 1,200 light years away. He’s also a man of faith — faith in science and faith in Christianity as he deals with questions such as how the universe was created.

It was a Friday afternoon, Aug. 31 of last year, that Eric Agol, a 42-year-old associate professor of astronomy at the University of Washington, looked at his computer screen and saw something astounding.

The algorithm Agol had put together and run had found an Earthlike planet some 1,200 light-years away.

It was orbiting its own sun, in a “habitable zone,” nicknamed the “Goldilocks zone,” meaning its temperatures are suitable for liquid water. And possibly life.

You could say Agol’s work puts him at the crossroads of some complex questions, which he answers with faith.

As the long awaiting Mobile Number Portability for GSM operators in Nigeria kicks off, Airtel has expressed its readiness to absorb the influx of requests from consumers who wish to port to its network.

Airtel Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mr. SegunOgunsanya assured that with Airtel’s robust and expanded 3.75g network coverage, many Nigerian subscribers who had waited so long to join the “best friends’ network” could finally exploit the window offered by the MNP to realise their wishes.

Ogunsanya further stated that Airtel is excited with the kick-off of MNP, saying it was the first telecoms operator in the country to move for the adoption of MNP during its historic brand launch event, which held on November 19, 2010 at the Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

“I am happy to inform you that we have done all our homework and we are fully ready for the MNP go-live date. Airtel has transformed its network, investing over $1.5bn to improve network efficiency and quality. Airtel was the first telecoms operator to complete 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) Trial in Nigeria and also the first service provider to roll out HD (High Definition) Voice in the country.

“It is on record that Airtel has the largest and widest 3.75G coverage in Nigeria and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) recently scored us high in key Quality of Service parameters, saying we met all targets in a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) measurements carried out in December, 2012,” he said.

April 27, 2013 – Most Wanted Boko Haram Leader Muhammed Chad Killed In Maiduguri During JTF’s Operation Restore Order

One of the most wanted leaders in Boko Haram camp, Mohammed Chad has died.

The notorious Boko Haram operative, Mohammed Chad, was yesterday evening killed in a gun battle with JTF. The fight occurred at Ruwan-Zafi area of Maiduguri metropolis when the officers of the JTF’s Operation Restore Order and operatives of the State Security Service confronted Boko Haram fighters.

Mohammed has been on the top list of the most wanted Boko Haram leaders. Intelligence sources told Saharareporters  that Mohammed was involved in the planning and execution of various terrorists attacks in and outside Borno state. He was allegedly the mastermind of the March 18th Boko Haram’s attack on Sanda Karami Secondary School at Ruwan-Zafi in which a teacher and three female students were killed.

Mr. Mohammed is believed to be the successor to Ba’ana Assalafi , a Boko Haram commander who was killed in a gun battle with security agencies in Sokoto.
