I know that this topic has been covered in past but I am having trouble finding the data.
How quickly and how much muscle mass can be added with good nutrition and proper strength training without the aid of anabolic steroids? For the most part I often see exaggerated claims of increase in muscle mass. Scientific data appreciated if possible.

Hi Ralph,
Interestingly I am following John Berardi's year long scrawny2brawny program so should have some 'real world' data for you. Using bodystat and calipers to record bodyfat. Due for 4 week update over the weekend. Will post update Monday for you.
Kind regards

Ralph,
I was thinking about the same after reading the story of the trainer who
gained weight and then lost it again. It didn't seem convincing, especially
in view of the posts of the last 6 months, discussing how much weight one
can lose without losing muscle mass.
One post mentioned the post-war Minnesota study, linking how much weight
one could lose. Another recent post (by you) quoted the science-section
article appeared in the New York in the last couple of weeks, which said
that to lose 10 lb of fat it would take 1 year or so. You are looking at
the complementary effect, but still I think the two things are related.

In the Game of Shadows, authors Wada and Williams point out the following:
"After the summit at BALCO, Montgomery [sprinter Tim] underwent a
startling transformation. By Conte's account, he gained 28 pounds of muscle in only
eight weeks."
