Chile's Youngest President Makes History Again: Gabriel Boric Announces He's Going to Be a Dad

In a moment that has both surprised and charmed Chileans, President Gabriel Boric, Latin America’s youngest leader at 38, has revealed he’s about to embark on a brand-new role: fatherhood. Early Wednesday, Dec. 4, the president and his partner, Paula Carrasco, made the heartwarming announcement via Instagram, sharing an ultrasound image of their little one.

“With you on the way, we promise to do our best to build a fair and happy Chile,” the couple captioned the post, radiating joy and hope for the future.

But this isn’t just a personal milestone—it’s a groundbreaking moment for Chile’s history. Boric will be the first president of the socially conservative, predominantly Catholic country to welcome a child

without being married.

Carrasco, 30, is no stranger to breaking boundaries herself. An environmental chemist working for Chile’s Ministry of the Environment and a professional basketball player on the national team, she embodies strength and ambition. The two met during the Pan American Games in October 2023, and their relationship became public in September 2024, quickly becoming a modern love story that captured the nation’s imagination.

President Boric’s love life has often drawn public attention. His previous relationship with political scientist and sociologist Irina Karamanos ended in November 2023, following her brief tenure as first lady.

Now, with a baby on the way, Boric and Carrasco are forging a new path, balancing leadership and family life in a way that resonates with younger generations. The announcement has sparked both admiration and debate, but one thing is clear: Gabriel Boric is not just redefining leadership—he’s redefining tradition in Chile.
