#DesopadecGate : The Exclusion Of National Open University of Nigeria Students From DESOPADEC Bursary

It appears that the last has not been heard of the #DesopadecGate as scores of the truth is being unveiled by yours truly #FastInfoMag. This time, it is about the exclusion of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) students from the DESOPADEC Bursary, A Federal University to say the least. 

This came as a shock to the students, after applying for the bursary/scholarship which clearly indicated their school(NOUN) as being among the list of schools to benefit from the scholarship scheme only to find out that they were excluded from the scheme by some
DESOPADEC Staff and Excos representing the student’s ethnic nationality.

It was gathered by yours truly #FastInfoMag that the current and some few students Exco of each ethnic national were involved. A source who spoke in anonymity alleged that “the national leader of each student union body claimed that they were the once who fought for the scholarship/bursary and as such they will make payment as they see fit. The surprising thing in my mind was , how come the student leader get to speak on whom to pay and who not to pay."  

Another of our source who spoke in anonymity said that National Open University of Nigeria(NOUN) student list was swapped for those in Marine School Burutu. when asked why they did that, she said it was to enable some of the student union chairmen add fictitious names to the list to enable them collect their share of the funds as was agreed when it was shared amongst the staff of DESOPADEC and the student leaders caucus meeting.

As of this moment of this report, over 56 NOUN students who applied, before the date was extended are yet to receive payment and what is worse is that those students whose schools where not in the list of schools to benefit from the program and yet applied under the names of other schools where paid and those student that applied on the deadline of the extension have been paid.

The committee responsible for the scholarship/bursary refuse to make any comment on the issue.
