ASARI DOKUBO TOOK PART IN THE $9.3M SCANDAL- APC...
The All Progressives Congress says ex-militant, Alhaji Mujaheed Dokubo-Asari, was involved in the $9.3m arms deal which led to the arrest of two Nigerians and an Israeli in South Africa.

The party, therefore, asked President Goodluck Jonathan to explain to Nigerians what Dokubo-Asari was doing on the plane where the money was found and confiscated by the South African authorities.

But Dokubo-Asari had distanced himself from the $9.3m botched arms deal.

The party said this in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday.

It said, therefore, that the Federal Government had a lot of questions to answer on the deal, including whether Dokubo-Asari was the contractor or the end user, who he was procuring arms for and for what purpose.

The APC said the questions became pertinent because even the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), who issued the end-user agreement for the purchase, “does not and cannot purchase arms for any of the armed services.”

The statement read in part, “Under our constitution, the NSA is an adviser and has no executive powers to deploy troops from any of the services or purchase arms for them. That the arms purported to be purchased from South Africa were ordered from the office of the NSA is nothing but a mere fabrication, and raises serious questions about the motive for the purchase.

“Nigerians will therefore like to know on whose behalf Asari Dokubo was purchasing arms. This is very crucial because Asari Dokubo has been threatening that Nigeria will not know peace if his benefactor, President Jonathan, is not re-elected. Therefore, Nigerians will like to know whether he has started stockpiling arms to make his threat a reality, since elections are due in a few months’ time.

“If these arms are meant to fight insurgency, as the government has claimed, what is Asari Dokubo’s business purchasing arms for the Nigerian military, if indeed they were for the military? Does it not occur to the Nigerian government that this man who once took arms against the state may not have jettisoned his sinister plan against the same state?”

The party said the President should also come clean on the $5.7m that was also seized by South Africa on Monday. He said Jonathan would so well by revealing the identities of the Nigerians that were arrested in South Africa.

Dokubo-Asari in a telephone interview with journalists from Saudi Arabia where he is presently performing the 2014 Hajj, said the last time he visited South Africa was in 2002 and could not have gone to any country without a visa.

He said, “Can you enter any country without a visa? No person can enter any country without a visa. Presently, I am in Saudi Arabia performing my Hajj as the Amirul Hajj of Bayelsa State and this can be confirmed. I flew Flynass from Kaduna on September 27. So, it is really a shame that Lai Mohammed who has defiled the name of Allah has become a pathological and award-winning liar.

“Nobody enters any country without a visa and I have not been to South Africa since 2002. I flew Arik airline from Lagos on the September 27 and went to Kaduna where I flew Flynass airline and came to Saudi Arabia.”

ADAMAWA SAGA: NYAKO'S DEPUTY SWORN IN AS ACTING GOVERNOR.

THE political climate in Adamawa State changed dramatically yesterday, when embattled Deputy Governor, James Bala Ngilari was sworn in as governor.
The swearing-in followed the ruling of a Federal High Court in Abuja which declared the seat of the former Acting Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as illegal and unlawful.
Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke directed the Chief Judge of Adamawa State to immediately swear-in Ngilari as governor of the state in obedience to the court judgement.Adoke, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Adedeji Ajibade, also called on the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ‘keep in abeyance all arrangements made for the conduct of bye-elections scheduled for Saturday.
President of Adamawa Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Lawan A. Lagre performed the swearing in ceremony as the tenure of the Acting Chief Judge, Justice Mammadi Ambrose expired, yesterday.
Speaking after taking oath, Governor Bala Ngilari described his emergence as the will of God.
“Let me state without fear of contradiction that my emergence is by the will of God. I will therefore put the fear of God first in all I do as I remain the Governor of Adamawa State”, he stated. He solicited the support of all stakeholders in the Adamawa project, stressing that the task ahead needs collective collaboration of all to take the state to the next level.
Ngilari identified insecurity, unemployment, poverty and other social vices as the major issues bedevilling the state, stressing that all hands must be on deck if the problems were to be tackled.
Loyalty to Jonathan, PDP
Pledging his absolute loyalty to President Goodluck Jonathan, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party’s National chairman and members of the Board of Trustees, he urged them to rally round his administration to achieve the needed results.
How Adamawa received Fintiri’s ouster
Earlier in the day, when reports started filtering into the state that the Acting Governor, Fintiri had been sacked, complete disquiet enveloped the state capital, especially Government House, the seat of government.
People gathered in groups to discuss the frequent political changes in the state, saying that the trend will not augur well for the needed rapid development of the state.
Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Prof. Abdullahi Liman Tukur lamented that the state was jinxed with frequent political changes that were inimical to its growth.
“In short, the hands of Adamawa clock has been reversed. It will take a decade or more for Adamawa to recover from the present political mess.” He said the people of Adamawa State under Fintiri had resolved to carry the state to the next level, but all of a sudden a new quagmire has been thrown into the state’s political development.

Mutiny: Agbakoba drags Army to court over death sentence on 12 soldiers.
Former President of Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), has dragged the Nigerian Army General Court Martial before a Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging its decision to convict and sentence 12 soldiers to death by firing squad for mutiny and other offences on September 16.
It will be recalled that the Military Court Martial had sentenced to death 12 of the 18 soldiers charged for mutiny on May 13 and 14, at Maimalari Cantonment.
In Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/708/2014, Agbakoba, on behalf of the 12 condemned soldiers, is challenging the decision of the Court Martial on the ground that its composition was unconstitutional and contrary to Section 36(1) of the Constitution, which guarantees a fair trial to accused persons by a tribunal constituted in such manner as to secure its independence and impartiality.
His affidavit
In his affidavit in support of the Originating Motion, Agbakoba stated that all the members of the Court Martial were Army Officers appointed by the 2nd Defendant, Brigadier-General D. T. Ndiomu, Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro Abuja.
The affidavit also stated that the prosecutors, Lieutenant-Colonel A.A. Audu and Lieutenant-Colonel Ukpe Ukpe, are Army Officers also appointed by the 2nd respondent.
Dr. Agbakoba asserted that the independence and impartiality of the Court Martial was not secured in the trial of the soldiers.
He noted: “This is because all those who participated in the events related to the Court Martial are Army officers. They are the investigators, prosecutors, President, Judge Advocate, Waiting Member and other members of the Court Martial

Group Calls For Dismissal Of Controversial AIG Of Police Mbu, Citing Abuse Of Power.

The Doing Democracy Movement (DDM), a human rights group, has demanded the dismissal of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 7, Abuja, Joseph Mbu. The demands come after the arrest of African Independent Television journalist Amaechi Anakwue, on Mbu's orders, a punishment meted against the journalist for describing the AIG as "controversial".

The group believes Mbu has consistently exceeded his authority, acting with impunity both as commissioner of police in Rivers State and against #BringBackOurGirls campaigners in Abuja.

In Port Harcourt today, DDM convener Anyakwee Nsirimovu condemned Mbu's actions, saying, “DDM calls on all social forces in Nigeria and Nigerians of all shades of opinion to see the ultimate hazard in discouraging thought, expression, hope and imagination as exemplified in Mbu’s latest act of impunity; as a fundamental threat that must be resisted if we must remain free and our government valuable."

“The critical danger in this, is that the fear that the state is encouraging AIG Mbu to inflict, breeds repression; that repression breeds hate; that hate menaces stable government; and that the part of safety lies in the opportunity to discuss freely supposed grievances and proposed remedies; and that the fitting remedy for evil counsels is good ones," he furthered.

“To void citizens from blowing off steam is to quicken the explosion of society. Collectively therefore, we should be united upon insisting that an omnipotent AIG Mbu has no place in civilised policing in Nigeria, therefore, should be dismissed forthwith.”
