WARRI—LESS than 24 hours after the local government elections were conducted in Delta State, the original Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, flag bearer for Warri South-West chairmanship seat, Mr. Weyinmi Omadeli, weekend said he was going to court over alleged substitution of his candidature two days to the controversial election.
In a statement in Warri, Omadeli insisted that there was no basis, legal or procedural, for the state leadership of PDP to substitute his name with that of George Ekpemupolo, 48 hours to the election after successfully scaling through the party hurdles and subsequently given the party’s flag by the National Chairman of PDP, Adamu Mu’azu in Asaba.
He said at a time when the national leadership of the PDP was working towards bringing back aggrieved members of the party and preaching the gospel of internal democracy, “it is obnoxious, unconstitutional and undemocratic” to have my name substituted.”
