Asymmetrical hairstyles feature longer hair cut on an angle, contrasted with shorter hair on the opposite side of the head. They create an edgy yet put together look that can be refined according to the wearer’s preferences. The volume permitted by the longer layers can be very complimentary, as it frames the face. This volume is created and maintained with the help of some teasing.
Things You'll Need
Instructions
- 1Begin with hair that has not been freshly washed, if possible. Second day hair teases and maintains volume better than newly cleansed hair.
- 2Brush the hair from root to tip, removing any knots and dispersing the hair’s natural oils for a smooth and healthy looking finish.
- 3Lift up the longer portion of hair, and spritz the roots with dry shampoo. Hold the can 5 inches away from the head, and spritz in 3 second bursts until coated.
- 4Separate the asymmetrical portion of the hair into two equal sections: the top layer of hair, and the bottom.
- 5Pin the top layer of hair back using a clip.
- 6Grab the remaining bottom layer, and hold it upwards.
- 7Use a teasing comb to tease underneath the bottom layer. Gently push the hair down towards the scalp, from mid-length to the root. Repeat until the desired volume is achieved.
- 8Spray the backcombed section with a volumizing hairspray, holding the can 5 inches away. Use more hairspray for thicker hair, and less for fine hair.
- 9Remove the top section of hair from the clip, and repeat the teasing and spraying process.
- 10Allow the layers to sit untouched for 3 minutes, giving the spray a chance to set the volume for the day.
- 11Use a hair brush to gently smooth the layers back into place. Focus on smoothing any flyaways on the top layer, creating a polished finish without disturbing the teasing done underneath the layers.
- 12Spray the finished look with volumizing hairspray, giving lift to all portions of the style and helping to keep it in place.
