The Transition Committee Chairman of Warri South local government, Dr. Augustine Uroye has vowed that the gunmen who attacked members of the Nigerian Prisons Service, Warri Wednesday March 13 on their way to a Warri High Court will be brought to book, declaring that their force cannot surmount that of government.

Dr. Uroye made the vow Friday March 15 when he led members of the Warri South Local Government Council Peace and Security Committee on a condolence visit to the Nigerian Prisons, Okere, Warri.

The Warri South Council boss, who noted that the prison service is not alone in the recent tragic incident, declared that the council’s peace and security committee which comprises of security Chiefs, prominent clerics and Community leaders is ready to synergize with the prison authority to forestall any reoccurrence.

Dr. Uroye, a former Secretary to Warri South local government stated that the prison authority will immediately be incorporated into the council’s newly inaugurated peace and Security committee with a view to strengthening its scope, just as he added that he will adequately brief the state government on the request for back-up security vehicle to avoid a repeat of Wednesday’s bloody attack on Nigerian Prison officials.

Responding,Comptroller General of Prisons, Zakari Ibrahim commended the Warri South Council Chairman for his show of love and applauded his decision to incorporate members of the Prison Service into the council’s peace and security committee.

Mr. Ibrahim who was represented by the OPS Abuja, Mr. SA Bewaji solicited the local government support in the area of procurement of escort vehicle, noting that of the 15 courts in the area, only one dilapidated black maria is available to men of Nigerian Prisons Service to effectively carry out their assignment.

He noted that if there was adequate back-up escort vehicle, the recent attack of men of the Prison Service on their way to court would have been repelled.

The Warri South Council boss alongside members of the council peace and security committee also visited three Prison Wardens who survived the Wednesday morning attack at two separate private hospitals in Warri.

Dr. Uroye had earlier inaugurated an adhoc committee to carry out staff audit in Warri South local government Council with a view to helping his administration determine the number of staff in the local government as well as cut down unnecessary wage bill.

The seven member staff ahhoc committee which has Secretary to the local government, Mr.Eugene Ebisin as member will be chaired by a retired staff of the council, Mrs.Lydia Ikomi, while Mrs. Marian Mene Ejegi will serve as Secretary
