The Executive Commissioner in charge of Stakeholders’ Management, Okechukwu Itanyi, made this known during the 55th edition of consumer outreach programme, held in Lokoja, at the weekend.
The commissioner, at a session with the theme: “Protection of Telecoms Infrastructure,” noted that it was the collective responsibility of all to protect telecoms infrastructure in various localities, in order to guarantee effective service delivery.
According to him, the commission had created a conducive environment that had attracted foreign direct investment into the industry, which, he said, was expected to bring about phenomenal growth in other sectors of the economy.
Itanyi stressed that the investors could only be encouraged to do more business in the country if their investments were secured from vandalism and destruction.
“It is, therefore, our collective responsibility to protect these infrastructure from vandalism, stealing and any other abuses. In fact, telecoms infrastructure should rank among the critical infrastructure which should enjoy priority attention and protection in the country,” he said.
He appealed to the government to expedite action towards making telecoms infrastructure a critical national asset that should be accorded priority attention.
