I find the following explanation in principle intuitive, but more complex
than it would appear: " Optimal contact time is therefore one-half the
natural period of the system." I will try to read the study to get a better
grasp of the problem.
You might want to check out the latest SI article on Pistorius.

Ken, I did read that article yesterday. That's what prompted me to ask you privately for the bibliographic reference on Buckley.

the track was dry, the blades had cleats you could see, and he was in the blocks like the rest of the runners.
he came in 2nd, eased - and it did NOT look tough.
when other folks are feeling oxygen debt on that homestretch, how much does he feel? does he tie up like the others if he pushes too hard?
He looked like he could have closed some of that gap behind the man who has the 2nd fastest time this year...!
I have to say after watching this heat that the questions are larger than ever, the level playing field, the whole question.
Like gymnastics that now has a very spring loaded floor exercise, has the time come for blades and for spring shoes?
With more questions than answers after watching the first heat, and I look forward to our discussion!
p.s. I have to also say I enjoyed the emotion of Mo in the 10,l000 meters...and the USA second place quietly won by Mr. Rudd. :)
now I'm going to stream some more of the less than grand officiating but interesting world of OL... :)
