"God Has A Good Plan For You." Jeremiah 29:11.
"For I know the plans I have for you,..." declares the Lord!
(Jeremiah 29:11). What could be more comforting?! To know that God
has a plan for our life, and is at work to bring it about, is
sometimes all we need to know.
When everything is going great, and we are on top of the world, it's
nice to hear that God has a plan for us. But it is those times when
nothing seems to be going our way, and God seems so very far away; it
is those times when these words mean so much.
Things may not be going too well with you at this time. Your spouse
may have gone to live with another; you may have been pushed too far
and have said many unkind words. Now, you are all alone. Are you
being threatened with separation or divorce?
Did your spouse separate from you against your will? You may be left alone to pay all those bills. What about your marriage vows? "...'til death do you part;" what about, "in sickness and in health?;" "For better or worse?" Is there no meaning to the marriage vows?
God's very precious gift to us is the gift of hope and a future. We
need to hear these words. Though we have been abandoned, rejected and
abused, let it be known my friends, and be encouraged today, that God
is still with us, and wants us to have His very best plan in spite of
what it currently looks like you may be facing.
"I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will
have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted
in my body whether by life or by death." (Philippians 1:20).
Paul was confined in Rome when he wrote his letter to the Philippians.
He didn't know whether he would be set free or executed, but he knew
Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Paul had seen God's Hand at work
and fully understood His Love and Power. He had completely turned his
life over to God and now lived with great expectations of how God
would use him to accomplish His plan.
There were times when Paul's situation appeared dismal and without
hope, but he had already seen how God was using ALL things to His
glory. "It has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to
everyone else that I am in chains for Christ." (Philippians 1:13).
Paul's hardship had made it possible for the whole palace guard to
hear the gospel message and had encouraged others to "speak the word
of God more courageously and fearlessly." (Philippians 1:14).
God knows when we sit and when we stand up, when we go out and when we
lie down. He knows what we are going to say before we say it. Now to
some, this is not a comforting thought. It may make them feel hemmed
in by God's watchful eye. But the purpose of God's care for us is not
to prevent us from having any fun. Quite the opposite. The purpose
of God's attentive care for us to give us the best that life has to
offer, pressed down and running over.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to
prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
It is a message appropriate for those who are discouraged and have no
hope and want to give up. It is also a message we all need to hear
and believe and trust.
