17 Major Generals, 14 Brigadier Generals retired from Nigerian army

Saw this on NTA News this evening. 17 Major Generals and 14 Brigadier Generals have been retired from Nigerian army on  April 24th 2015.

What could have led to this retirement?
Was there a planned coupe before or on May 29th 2015?

Phobia: Transgender woman beaten, stripped by police in Brazil

Oh dear! See what Brazilian police did to a transgender woman. They treated him a man. Pictures of badly beaten transgender Veronica Bolina emerged today and it is causing serious outrage in Brazil.

Veronica, 25, who was arrested for allegedly attacking her 73 year old neighbour, was beaten up by the police, they disfigured her face, forced her to strip and shaved her head. See pics after the cut…

After she was taken to jail, the police continued their torture of the Veronica.

Pictures show Veronica Bolina lying partially naked on the ground in front of a group of officers and other prisoners in Sao Paulo, Brazil. 
But an investigation is now underway amid reports she was set upon by officers on three different occasions after being taken into custody, leaving her face unrecognisable. 
Pictures appearing to show her ordeal were leaked online and have sparked outrage across Brazil.
The photos of her badly swollen eyes and mouth have been widely shared on the internet with outraged supporters setting up campaign groups on the internet demanding the right for LGBT people to be treated fairly.

Xenophobia: Malawians boycott all South African businesses in their country

Can this happen in Nigeria?

All businesses owned by South Africans including Game, Shoprite, PEP and others in Malawi will be under lock and key today April 24th. Malawians are totally boycotting these businesses following the xenophobic attacks in South Africa. Two Malawians died during the attacks, many businesses owned by Malawians were destroyed and just 2 days ago, Wednesday April 22, 390 of them were repatriated to Malawi.

Pres. Jonathan Sacks Inspector General Of Police Suleiman Abba, Appoints Arase as Acting IG

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has relieved the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba of his appointment and duties with immediate effect. IGP Suleiman Abba

President Jonathan has also appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase as Acting Inspector-General of Police, also with immediate effect.

Until his appointment as Mr. Abba’s replacement, Mr. Arase was the Head of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.

Mr. Arase holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Law, as well as  Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Political Science and Strategic Studies.

He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Defence College.

South Africa to deploy soldiers to the streets to quell Xenophobic violence

South African government says it will be deploying soldiers to the streets to curtail the xenophobic attacks in the country. South African Defence Minister, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, said the soldiers will be deployed to Alexandra township, north of the main city Johannesburg. She said the Troops will not take over the responsibilities of the police but would assist in maintaining order.
