Aja-Imele ia an Isekiri community in the present Sapele Local Government Area. Other Isekiri towns are Ugbekoko and Aja-Sagay in the south of Sapele. Sapele is a small area of land only 510 acres which Dore leased to the British in 1908. The dimension of Sapele stretches from the Waterfront passing through the present Hausa road, running down Ogodo Road, running down Abrahall road(now Oghene road) and ending at ATP. Aja-Imele is a total different settlement, Mechanic Village had another name, and it was another settlement. So this small area of land which I have delineated is the area of Sapele Township which the British called “one mass of forest in 1898”

Contrary to popular beliefs, Imele was not the wife or girlfriend of Ogodo. Imele an Isekiri princess would never have succumbed to marrying a native doctor, or a hunter as Ogodo was described in WACA 1943.

Founder and Owner

Imele was not given land by any Okpe man or clan or group. When Imele got to the land it was an empty mass of bush. When Imele left Bateren and Obaghoro inorder to indulge in the palm oil trade,
she saw an empty piece of land which she occupied. That place she called Aja-Imele after her own name. Much later in life, she decided to visit Efurokpe to bring a doctor to help her catch an animal that was disturbing in Ajimele and environs. It was then he brought Okubor.

The Man Okubor

Okubor was a Bini doctor from NIFOR, he was married to one Anakaja whose father was from Ora, but has a tenuous relationship with Okpe. Hear the tedious genealogy – Orhorho (one of the four brothers that scioned Okpe clan) scioned Orholor. Orholor gave birth to Owhere. Owhere gave birth to Erukamre. Erukamre a female gave birth to Anakaja through a marriage with Ibiriwo Ordia. Ordia was an Ora doctor from Ozalla in Edo state. The marriage of Anakaja(paternally Ora and Okubor, completely a Bini man from NIFOR(WACA 1943) led to the birth of Ogodo Okubor. To prove that Ogodo could not give any inch of land to Imele, he Okubor the father of Ogodo died and was buried in the Isekiri village of Ewobodo in Ethiope West.

It was Imele who went and brought Ogodo from Ewobodo and Efurokpe axis where he was doctoring. Imele was not the wife or girlfriend of Ogodo, both of them were related and descended from the same Erukamre from the line of Orhue, through five generations of female line. Ogodo was not Okpe although his descendants through intermarriage can claim Okpe. Imele , too is not Okpe although like Ogodo she has a modicum of Okpe blood. Imele was appointed a warrant chief, a post she gave to her brother. She was very influential.

Princess Imele Marriage

She was married to a white man – Brownwich. There are documents to prove all this. The truth is, it was Imele who brought Ogodo to the Sapele area and not the other way round. The proof of the grave of Okubor in Ekuobodo(Ethiope West LGA) speaks volumes against the Okpe position.
Imele, founded Aja-Imele without the support or help of Ogodo. She owns her land, which she formed about 1842, during the commencement of the palm oil trade.

Angelina Jolie Pitt and daughter Shiloh continued their humanitarian trip on yesterday Saturday June 20th, visiting southeastern Turkey for World Refugee Day.

Jolie Pitt, who serves as a special envoy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and her 9-year-old daughter with husband Brad Pitt visited a Syrian and Iraqi refugee camp in the town of Midyat, in the Mardin province of Turkey.

The star also met with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, discussing the crisis in the world’s largest refugee community, according to a press release.

“Our world has never been richer or healthier or more advanced. Yet never before have so many people been dispossessed and stripped of their basic human rights,” she said according to the release. “We should call this what it is: not just a ‘refugee crisis,’ but a crisis of global security and governance, that is manifesting itself in the worst refugee crisis ever recorded – and a time of mass displacement.”

The mother-daughter pair were also joined by the UNHCR High Commissioner Antonio Guterres on their refugee camp visits.

“This is a central problem. We cannot pick and choose which human rights violations we will and won’t tolerate,” Jolie Pitt said while at the Midyat camp.

The actress, who has six children with Pitt, brought Shiloh first to Lebanon to spend time with a 12-year-old Syrian girl she met a year prior during another UNHCR trip.

“Shiloh is very aware that I hold refugee families in high regard and has been asking to come on missions and meet them for many years,”.

Jolie Pitt and Shiloh spent time with the little girl named Hala, who has no parents and lives with her five siblings in a tented settlement.

“Upon leaving the family, Shiloh asked many questions,”. “It is of course hard to explain all of the harsh realities of war and displacement. She said she felt sad, but was happy that she went and is looking forward to the next visit.”

The actress and Shiloh will join Pitt and the rest of the famous family for Father’s Day on Sunday.

Africa’s first Global Black Entertainment and Lifestyle network, EbonyLife TV, hosted young leaders and professionals to an exclusive meeting with Professor AttahiruJega, Chairman Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Saturday, June 20, at the Wheatbaker Hotel, in Ikoyi, Lagos. See the photos after the cut…

The venue brimmed over with invited guests drawn from a pool of leading young professionals from various occupational sectors who came to converse with the respected professor about his experience as Nigeria’s most powerful electoral official. The master of ceremony wasEbuka Obi-Uchendu, a co-host of the highly rated The Spot on EbonyLife TV and host of Nigeria’s most watched youth-oriented television show, Rubbin’ Minds.

Nikki Laoye, recording artiste and project manager at Wahala media entertainment, did a sonorous rendition of the Nigerian national anthem, to set the stage for what, characteristic of EbonyLife TV activations, turned out to be an amazing and rewarding event.

Executive Chairman and CEO of EbonyLife TV, Mo Abudu, gave a powerful opening address on the event. With great introspection, the Queen of Chat welcomed everyone and summarized the 2015 electoral dispensation with passion and magnanimity. YemiAdamolekun of the Enough is Enough fame gave a rousing opening remark as the conference kicked into the reading of Professor AttahiruJega’s highly inspirational citation, followed by a brief comment by Jega.

The televised event, which then burst into an exciting gale of questions and answers between Professor Jega and the guests, reached a crescendo with the presentation of an award to the Professor. The award celebrated Professor Jega as “a Champion of our collective aspirations for free, fair and violence-free elections”.

“It is important for young Nigerians to ask questions; the Nigerian youth were a big part of the last general elections,” said Mo Abudu, Executive Chairman and CEO of EbonyLife TV. “We want Nigeria’s future leaders to grasp not only the importance of the elections and its ramifications for the country, but to begin to build upon it by truly understanding the legacy left by Professor Jega,” she concluded.
