Nigerian troops capture Damboa and Bulabulin from Boko Haram in Borno

Nigerian troops have once again recorded victory over the dreaded Boko Haram sect in Bulabulin Ngaura village of Damboa LGA of Borno State.

Though the number of insurgents who were killed in the fierce battle on Monday, October 6, could not be ascertained, they were said to have suffered many casualties, Daily Trust reports.

It was gathered from a competent source in the military that the battle between the insurgents and soldiers took place between 5pm and 10pm on Monday.

The source who disclosed nothing about the number of casualty suffered by the military said: “I cannot tell you precisely how many were killed but they suffered heavy casualty… we killed many of them and others escaped with injuries.

“We have secured both Damboa and Bulabulin but they came back yesterday to attack us. I am pleased to inform you that the fighting was fierce but they were repelled. They suffered heavy losses.”

He added that following increased pressure around the Damboa-Bama-Gwoza axis, the insurgents are making frantic efforts to create escape routes around Gulani and Gujba axis in Yobe State through Damboa and Bulabulin in Borno State.

Bulabulin, a deserted village, situated 58 kilometers from Maiduguri along Damboa road which was a battlefield between June and July this year, was once occupied by Boko Haram insurgents and soldiers were tactically withdrawn from the area for some time.

On July 21, Boko Haram insurgents had attacked Damboa town and murdered hundreds of residents and soldiers patrolling the area, before planting their flags and claiming the town.

However, in August, Nigerian Army went on the offensive and got back the town from the Islamist insurgents.

About two months ago, the confidence of the soldiers was boosted after they took delivery of high caliber weapons and equipment and the number of troops were increased, which has aided their recent success in the war against insurgents in the north east of the country.
