Amnesty Office on the Allegations Against INYC

Abuja - Yesterday, the Amnesty Office had a meeting with the warring factions of the Itsekiri National Youths Council(INYC) and key issues were discussed regarding publications, public demonstrations, allegations on embezeling of funds, delayed deployment of beneficiaries, funds for 73 persons and lots more.....!

Those present are the Special Adviser to the President, Director of Procurement, Director of Communication, Director of Technical Reintegration, Director of Peace building and Conflict Resolution, Representattives from the Department of Justice , Barrister Ariyo Robinson, Mike Odeli, Alero Tenumah, Engr, Tosan, Sunny, Omasanjuwa Ogharandukun, Esimaje Awani and his crew etc...

Kingsley Kuku, the Special Adviser to President on Niger Delta Affairs and the Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, said, miscommunication, misinformation, misrepresatation and tension is what is causing the present rancor. All that is needed is

communication and understanding.

What is the reason for the Meeting?
The basis of the meeting is to curb the above and prevent disgrace of the Amnesty Office.

On Itsekiri claim for Integration
He supports Itsekiri's claim for The intergration into the Amnesty program after loosing out due to Documentation at Agbaroh....Itsekiri said that they were not militants but protecting their motherland and families, hence they refused to submit documents for their initial 5,000 slots... Thus the National Assembly did deem it fit to give them 500 slots to reintergrate the Itsekiri's into the Amnesty Programme

On Knowledge of the Beneficiaries
He said he did not know the 500 people in the list and thus he relied on the INYC for the list

Kuku's Advice
He said the welding and fabrication programme has failed for there is no job to absorb them thus he advice that Itsekiri should send more people from their list to school i.e educate them

How the Itsekiri 500 slot is divided
The Itsekiri slot is divided into these Education 250, Vocation 213, Women Empowerment 37.
The issue of petitioning
He said, the Itsekiri are not known for this kind of behaviour that they at the Amnesty office look up to the Itsekiris because they are very well organized and coordinated but the recent scandal on the National Dailies has dented the Itsekiri's reputation and the Amnesty office is at the receiving end of the Itsekiri National Youths Council(David Tonwe led and Awani Led factions) crossfire.

On INYC Leadership

This is not the office of the Amnesty to decide but the question of leadership should be looked into by your leaders and i must say with all fairness that i know Barrister Ariyo Robinson, Hon. Daniel Ireyenieju etc and these are the people i have met as far as the dealing with the Itsekiri beneficiaries and the Amnesty office does not Deal with INYC but with Consultants from the Itsekiri extraction.

On how the INYC handles the process
No matter how good your intentions, work and processes are, the people of the Niger Delta always finds fault with it. Falsehood is very easy to cement as rumor is very easy to spread. Leadership is not fraudulent but what we have is lack of opportunity. INYC did not see or embezzle the monies of the 73 beneficiaries, he went on to say that this 73 persons are facing problems due to their wrong account number
Amnesty office do not delay procurement and deployment of the Itsekiri beneficiaries but the office is financially constrained.
Amnesty Office will re-emborse the 32 Million Naira they borrowed from the Itsekiri extraction to enable the Itsekiri beneficiaries deploy to their programs.

Esimaje Awani spoke on the leadership of INYC and said the Palace of the Olu of Warri gave them a recommendation letter to the Amnesty office as the recognized INYC.

Barrister Ariyo Replying to the Allegations

Ariyo after apologiesing for the absense of some of the INYC executives went on to say:
I am a lawyer accused of joining with INYC to embezel 100 million naira
That i am accused of being responsible for sponsoring a group to protest against the Amnesty office after all the good work I have put into the success of this programme.
I am accussed and i Quote "Did you want to go into the Delta state House of Assembly and embezzle our money there like you did the 100 Million Naira in the Amnesty program?
My reputation and intergrity is been questioned even by my own father who had raised in me with morals and values becoming of a true gentle man.
His question was "
Did you give me or INYC N100 Million per month or at all?

Kuku's Reply

Amnesty office has not paid 100 million to any person and is not paying a dime to any person.
