80 Million members in President Jonathan support groups

Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs and National Coordinator, Goodluck Jonathan Support Group (JSG) Professor Rufai Alkali, revealed the organizations enjoyed great backing from Nigerians.

Briefing journalists in Abuja yesterday, September 22, Alkali said there were already more than 80 million members in the groups, Vanguard reports.

Also, according to Alkali Jonathan would not ignore the over 7,000 support groups that urged him to run for the second term in 2015 presidential elections.

The official added that “a lot of work actually took place before the adoption of President Jonathan as the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The leadership of a big party as PDP had met and agreed to adopt the President because of his sterling qualities.”

It would be recalled that the ruling party made up the decision to adopt Jonathan as its sole candidate on September 18.
Responding to the endorsement, the president said he was humbled and overwhelmed by the move. Jonathan thanked all involved in initiating the action.

Meanwhile the party’s primaries ahead of the February 2015 elections had been previously scheduled for December 6. Although Jonathan has not yet declared his ambition to run for re-election, the PDP NEC made their final decision.

Numerous groups have urged the country leader to declare interest.

The South-South Chiefs and Elders Council, SSCEC International on September 6 in an emotional showcase of their support even vowed to arrest President Goodluck Jonathan if he failed to declare his ambition to re-contest.
