Hamstring Cramping

Perhaps the problem isn't on the posterior side but the anterior side? Do you have an anterior tilt/lower cross syndrome going on with your pelvis? If so, all the glute bridges you do in the world will be for naught because the glutes will just be inhibited. You might need to open up the hip flexors/locked up short muscles through soft tissue work and some stretching that incorporates a movement pattern and core activation. Then the locked up long muscles will start to fire. Then go to the glute bridges, etc. Two other exercises that I particularly like for building hip mobility/glutes/neuromuscular function are single leg deadlifts and squats.

Alternatively look at the hip flexor stretch proposed by Stuart McGill. The most common hip flexor stretches that most people use really only target the illiacus; one really needs a more three dimensional stretch eg. employing an inline semi-lunge position with trunk rotation and side bending to really hit the psoas.

Or one might also look at your feet and whether for instance whether your big toe has the prerequisite mobility needed. If not, you're going to shorten your stride, place more stress on the LB because of the shifting in the COG and finally resulting in tightening of the hamstrings.

Stephen,
It could be that the muscles of your low back, and especially your glutes are not firing properly, or fully, causing the hamstrings to be overworked. Personally- glute bridges always caused my hamstrings to cramp up, doing them with a band placed around the knees and pushing out slightly takes care of this. I would try some double leg and single leg glute bridges, also lateral resisted band walks- these will activate the glutes. Certainly worth a try..

To the Yahoo Supertraining group,

I would appreciate it if anybody has a suggestion or
suggestions for the following situation.
I am a 52 year old former college football player who practices,
jogging, martial arts, weightlifting, and numerous other activities. Ever since I was in my twenties if I lie face
down in a prone position and I try and bring one of my heels to my glute's, my
hamstring on the leg lifted will automatically cramp. My hamstrings will also cramp after I have
been exercising for a while. I have
tried several things to combat this situation, chiropractic work, deep tissue
massage, static stretching, PNF stretching, ballistic stretching, and acupuncture. I have also been conscious of hydrating
really well as well as taking magnesium supplements in order to combat the
cramping. Please advise, thirty years of
leg cramps has taken its toll on me.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions,

Stephen Smith

Complex Movements in Strength Training

Hi ALL

I would like
to discuss the advantages of Complex Movements aka Multi – Joint Exercises; aka Compound Exercises in
Strength Training.
As a
Personal Trainer I see a lot of people doing Isolated Movements in the gym,
these are Single-Joint Exercises. The most common Isolated Exercise I see being
performed a lot is the Bicep Curl - this is not the only one, however it is
very common to see guys doing Bicep Curls to try and grow larger arms.
It is far
more effective to perform a Multi – Joint Exercise because the body does not
work well in muscle isolation, rather it works better in movements along a
kinetic chain; that is, large portions of the body assist other portions of the
body in completing a Complex Movement. So instead of a Bicep Curl try doing something like a
Pull-Up which works your Biceps as well as the Latissimus Dorsi, Trapezius,
Teres Major and Rhomboids – making for a far more rewarding workout.
There are
many effective Multi-Joint / Complex Movements / Compound Exercises that work
lots of muscles in the body. They create more stable and stronger joints in the
long run (when done properly), and also burn massive quantities of calories
compared to the single-joint exercises.http://www.bestexerciseworkouts.com/compound-exercises/- View this site to see some awesome Compound Exercises for
your training.
Note: these
exercises involve the large muscle groups when you exercise. The benefit of
Multi-Joint exercises is they help to create a body that is functional and will
be less prone to injury and tendonitis. When you perform these exercises you
are creating a body that is a powerful, functional unit that works together.

Best Results!

[marriagerestoration] You Need Not Fear!! - May 25, 2012 - Doreen's Daily Delights

You Need Not Fear!!

"The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?... For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock." Psalm 27:1 & 5

Today, no matter what you are going through, you need not fear any evil. God is with you. "In Time Of Trouble". In Psalm 37 we found comforting promises, "Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD... Rest in the LORD,... Wait on the LORD..." We can't do any of these things on our own.

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right Hand" Isaiah 41:10

Today, my friends I have got good news for you; most of the things you fear do not even come to pass. But Satan likes to make you believe that they will happen. He is a liar and the father of all liars. You need to believe the Word of God concerning you and your situation.

Is your wayward spouse coming again you? You need not fear, trust in the Lord today to deliver you. The secret is in verse 39, "But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble." and in our verses above, "The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?"

Today I myself can testify that I am faced with many trying circumstances which should cause me to fear. But I will stand firm in the Lord and I WILL NOT FEAR, because God is with me. Therefore, I say to you my friends, do not fear.

We can't find strength from the Lord until we fully trust in His salvation. We must first turn to God for salvation before we can pray to Him for help through our daily troubles.

So, I encourage you to make it a habit of confessing the Word of God concerning your situation and all fear will disappear.

I want to thank those who have been assisting me in this quest for the healing of marriages. Without your prayers and financial support, there is no way I would be able to encourage and minister to many. I thank God daily for your obedience and faithfulness.

Be encouraged

[marriagerestoration] Are You Troubled Today?!! - May 24, 2012 - Doreen's Daily Delights

Are you troubled today?

"And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled?..." Luke 24:36-38

Jesus gave a word of assurance in Luke 24 as He was preparing His disciples for the climactic events over the next several days. I believe His words are very applicable to any situation or trouble that we all go through.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled" Jesus forthrightly commands. We need to recognize that "peace of heart" is available to all and most desirable in the midst of troubling circumstances.

Are you troubled because of your circumstance? Today I must tell you there is reason to hope. The Bible tells us that God will never leave us. He can make something beautiful out of ugly circumstances.

He can bring good out of what others meant for evil. He still offers hope, peace and words of inspiration to each of us today. God is in control, even in the middle of these troubled times we can be at peace knowing - God does not change... Ever!

Jesus asked His disciples, "Why are ye troubled?" Are you troubled? So many people are troubled over their marriage, or their family. Their spouses have walked away from their vows and are living in disobedience.

Whatever is your situation today, take your cares and burdens to the Lord in prayer. Ask Him to stand with you and give you peace that only He can give.

Let's look at some of the comforting words of our Lord. "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."(John 14:1-3)

Matthew 11:28-30, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Let the Lord help you carry your burdens.

Take your situation in prayer to the Lord. Every one of us faces needs and trials in our lives. Sometimes they are beyond our own means or understanding. These are not the times to panic or to give up in defeat. These are the times to have faith, and trust the Lord will meet and supply our need from His unlimited resources, as only He can.

If you have been receiving these daily devotionals, will you consider supporting this Ministry today? I am praying that as I pray to the Lord daily to speak to the hearts of wayward spouses, He will also speak to hearts of those who have not been supporting this Ministy. Will you help today? Thanks in advance.

Be encouraged

[Relationship-Talk] Is it love?

There is a girl. She is my colleague. When I first saw her I felt something strange in my stomach. I can't explain it. But I feel happy when I am close to her like 1 meter or half a meter. Everything she does makes me feel happy, I would rather say, weirdly happy. Her laugh, her giggles, her moves, her voice, everything in her makes me happy. I just want to hear her, be near her, see her, talk to her. I long to be with her. This is the second time I am having this feeling. The first time was, when I was in 4th grade. Since then there was no girl who could make me feel this way. The worst part is that I am married and she is single. She is so kind and virtuous. Am I in love? Or is she my love from a past life? Help me. What should I do?

Stephen,

It is my experience that cramping is as much a mechanical problem of
the low back as it is a physiological dysfunction. It is fine
re-hydrating, if the electrolyte balance is not correct, but if you
have a back problem causing very mild nerve compression ( L4/L5 disc,
or Spondylolysthesis, facet joint wear), then, in certain
circumstances you will experience cramp. The cramp is brought on by
the structural deformity impinging the nerve - but only when you place
the spine in a compromising position. For a damaged disc, this might
be forward flexion, for facet joint wear and spondylolystheses this
would be spinal extension. The only real way to figure this out is to
have an MRI scan but, there is nothing you can do about it once you
find out if this is the case. I might suggest that combative sport is
not for the older sportsman as it tends to compound issues such as the
one I am describing. It might also be worth noting that, in the UK,
around 1:11 people have a spondylolysthesis, most of whom have no idea
it exists and, unless you want to be on the "Elite" squad, it will not
have much of an effect on your day to day living.

Kendall Chew.
Cheshire. UK.

[marriagerestoration] Your Help Comes From The Lord!! - May 23, 2012 - Doreen's Daily Delights

Your Help Comes From The Lord!!

Psalm 121:1 "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth."

Psalm 121 tells us so much about the character of the Lord. Be reminded that the Lord is your helper. He is the powerful God who created the entire world we live in and enjoy. He also cares about you while you are going through and will not leave you aloneme.

He watches over not only the entire universe… but He also watches over you! He does not take a break from protecting you… He is always guarding your life, day or night. He keeps you from harm, He directs your steps, He watches over you!

What comfort these truths should bring to your soul. When you are weary and feel like you are in a valley, you can look up and remember that the help you need comes from God. When you are discouraged and feel alone, know that God is with you, protecting and guiding you.

It's so easy to let feelings take control of our lives. But we have promises of God that do not change with the weather. These truths about God are true no matter how we feel, what we are experiencing, and no matter what struggle we face. Let us find comfort in our God who never changes.

Prayer: Thank You Father that we can look to You. Thank You that You are faithful. Give us the strength we need to keep looking to You in faith. We are grateful that You are bigger than any trial, any fear and any struggle. We trust in You and look to You alone for the hope and strength we need.

You need not worry about your future. God will be with you every step of the way and He will be with you forevermore.

NOTE: I want to inform all that I received only one response regarding purchasing a computer or laptop for the Ministry. Will you help me today? I am still using a loaned laptop.

I am praying and interceding on your behalf daily. May you be blessed and be at peace. Thanks again. You are appreciated.

Be encouraged
